CNC Machine Glossary
CNC machine specifications describe different limits: axis travel, table size, load, spindle speed and turning diameter are not interchangeable. This glossary explains the terms used on Tiezheng model pages, shows where to check the published figures, and helps buyers prepare a clear inquiry. Final machine suitability depends on the part drawing, workholding, tooling, configuration and required operations.
Find a published specification
Search the V855, TZ251, TYA300 and WHH63 examples by model, parameter wording or published unit. Values keep their original labels and configuration conditions. Text matches are not a machining recommendation or a numerical capacity comparison.
Open a model section to read its published values and follow the source link to the full model page.
No matching published rows in these four examples. Try fewer words or reset the filters. A missing value is unknown, not zero or proof that a machine is unsuitable. Browse all machines or ask about a specification.

What is the difference between axis travel and workpiece size?
- X/Y/Z-axis travel
- The movement range along each named linear axis, normally listed in millimetres. Read the axes in the published order. Travel describes machine motion, not a guaranteed maximum workpiece size.
- Table size
- The table’s stated length and width. A part must also be located and clamped, and the tool must reach the required features. Table dimensions do not describe all usable cutting positions.
- Maximum table load
- The published load limit, with any stated loading conditions. Ask how the workpiece, fixture, rotary equipment and load distribution are accounted for in the proposed setup; do not treat a length in millimetres as a load rating.
- Spindle-nose-to-table distance
- A separate clearance dimension. Consider the tool and holder length, fixture height and part height when reviewing the setup. Z travel alone does not state this clearance.
For example, the V855 specifications list a 1000 × 550 mm table, 800 × 550 × 550 mm X/Y/Z travel and a 600 kg maximum table load. These are three different checks, not one interchangeable workpiece limit.
How should spindle, feed and configuration terms be read?
- Spindle speed, rpm
- Spindle revolutions per minute. A published maximum is not a recommended speed for every tool or material. Select cutting conditions for the actual operation, tool and workpiece.
- Rapid traverse and cutting feed
- Rapid traverse describes positioning movement; cutting feed describes motion during a programmed cutting operation. Keep the units and any per-axis values intact when comparing specifications.
- Standard and optional configuration
- Standard describes the stated baseline configuration; optional identifies a separately specified choice. An option on one model does not establish its availability on another. The written quotation should identify what is included.
- Maximum machining or turning diameter
- A model-specific diameter limit. Do not substitute it for spindle bore, chuck size, bar capacity or part length. Retain any guide-bush, spindle or configuration condition attached to the original field.
The V855 model page distinguishes the standard 8000 rpm spindle from the optional 12000 rpm configuration. Keep that distinction in a comparison or inquiry instead of displaying the optional value as standard.
Why do workholding and cycle time matter?
- Workholding and fixture
- The equipment that locates and clamps the part. Fixture layout, tool access and part position must be considered alongside machine specifications. General setup background is available in the Haas mill part-setup manual; it is not a Tiezheng operating procedure or an endorsement.
- Machining cycle and total production time
- A machining cycle is not automatically the complete time needed for an accepted part. State whether loading, unloading, transfer, inspection and repeat setup are included. The CNC production-cost guide explains why those boundaries matter.
Where can these terms be checked on Tiezheng machines?
Use these links as specification-reading examples, not as automatic recommendations for your workpiece.
- V855 vertical machining center: compare table size, travel, load and standard versus optional spindle values.
- TZ251 Swiss-type CNC lathe: read the named machining-diameter and spindle fields, including the conditions attached to each value.
- TYA300 upright and inverted vertical lathe: keep upright and inverted specifications separate; do not combine their values into one setup.
- WHH63 opposed horizontal machining center: distinguish the rotary-worktable dimensions from axis travel.
Choose a starting route with the machine selector, then use the machine comparison guide and each exact model’s full specifications. The selector is a starting point for discussion, not a machining-capability certificate.
Questions to resolve before requesting a quotation
Does 800 mm X travel mean an 800 mm part will fit?
Not by itself. Check part orientation, fixture position, the features to be machined and tool access. Review the complete setup rather than approving a part from one travel figure.
Can table load and table dimensions be compared as one limit?
No. Dimensions describe size; load describes weight capacity under the stated conditions. Check both independently and confirm the proposed workholding arrangement.
Is the highest listed spindle speed always included?
No. Read the standard and optional labels. Ask for the selected drive and spindle configuration to be named in the quotation.
Can a material or industry be selected from spindle speed alone?
No. Material grade, blank condition, cutting tools, required operations and tolerance all need review. A specification match is not evidence of a demonstrated application.
Should an unlisted parameter be treated as zero?
No. A missing public value is unknown, not zero and not proof that the machine is unsuitable. Ask for the specification for the exact model and configuration.
What information should accompany the first machine inquiry?
Use the RFQ checklist to prepare the model, material, part dimensions, required operations, tolerances, volume and destination. Send the initial inquiry without confidential drawings; the team can arrange a controlled file-exchange route.
Sources and scope
This buyer guide uses the linked Tiezheng model specifications and production-cost guide, with the linked Haas manual for general workholding context. Model values and configuration labels should be checked on the linked model page when preparing a quotation. General terminology does not replace the machine’s operating instructions or an agreed part-specific acceptance plan.
